About this Project
The design-build Mule Creek Infill Complex houses 1,584 Level II Inmates for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The project includes 550,000 SF of new construction, spread across 24 individual buildings on an 80-acre site.
Adjacent to the active, high-security Mule Creek State Prison, the project required the mass excavation of over 1,000,000 cubic yards of material, all new site utilities and systems to support the new complex and over one mile of lethal electrified fencing. Buildings were constructed using site cast, precast, and precast modular methodologies. Hensel Phelps self-performed the exterior concrete and insulated tilt-up walls along with the rest of the concrete package. The project was completed in under two years, which was two months ahead of schedule.
