Among these awards are the prestigious Associated General Contractors Build America Awards, the Associated General Contractors Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Awards, and the National Design-Build Awards presented by the Design-Build Institute of America, as well as various national safety and diversity awards.

Build America Awards

Hensel Phelps has received 15 Associated General Contractors Build America Awards, which are given in recognition of excellence in the construction industry. Voted upon by other contractors, these Build America Awards are considered to be the Construction Industry’s “Oscars.” The following projects are our most recent award recipients:

  • Love Field Modernization Program, Dallas, Texas (Outstanding Renovation over $200 Million Category)
  • SSA National Support Center (Merit Award in the Federal and Heavy Construction Category)
  • Pentagon – Renovation Wedges 2 – 5, Arlington, Virginia (“Silver Beam” Award for Design-Build)
  • Pentagon – Renovation Wedges 2 – 5, Arlington, Virginia (Grand Award Winner – Overall Project of the Year)

AGC Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Awards

Hensel Phelps’ history of AGC Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Awards, given for vigorously upholding the tenets of partnering, includes nine Excellence in Partnering Awards and five Special Recognition Awards. Recent award recipients include:

  • US Penitentiary/Federal Correctional Institute II Victorville, Victorville, California

Design-Build Institute of America Awards

Since 1996, the Design-Build Institute of America has selected the most outstanding design-build projects throughout the United States that demonstrate the successful application of design-build principles and recognize the use and efficacy of design-build as a project delivery method. Hensel Phelps has been the proud recipient of 8 National Design-Build Awards and 30 Design-Build Excellence Awards since the inception of this design-build competition. The following projects are our most recent award recipients:

  • University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center (Healthcare Facilities Category – National Award of Merit)
  • SLAC Science and User Support Building (Federal, State, County, Municipal Category – National Award of Merit)

National Safety Awards

Hensel Phelps has received 52 national safety awards and multiple local safety awards since 2005 from organizations such as Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), and the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC). Recent national awards include:

  • ABC Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) – Platinum Award
  • ABC Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) – Diamond Award
  • AGC Certificate of Commendation for Excellent Safety Record – (25% Below Division Incidence Rate, Building Division)
  • AGC NASA Award
  • ASCC Safety Award for Incident Rate Below the National Average

In addition, Hensel Phelps has been recognized both regionally and nationally for quality in construction and management by a variety of other clients, associations, and industry leaders, including the American Institute of Architects, the American Institute of Steel Constructors, the American Concrete Institute, and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, as well as government agencies such as OSHA and the California Highway Administration.
