UT Medical Branch at Galveston Jennie Sealy Replacement Hospital Invasive Cardiology Services

About the Project

The Invasive Cardiology Services project consisted of building out 32,200 SF of shelled space in the existing and active hospital. New offices and patient rooms were added as well as four new state-of-the-art Catheterization and Electrophysiology labs. With their advanced radiology equipment, this lab gives doctors the ability to perform some of the most critical and complex heart disease procedures. Support spaces for the program were located on the adjacent floor of the Clinical Services Wing in order to accommodate future patient growth needs on the sixth floor of the Jennie Sealy Hospital. The supporting spaces are providing patient prep and recovery, public waiting areas, staff work areas, administrative and medical management, and support services. Over $14 million worth of work was put in place within a short 10-month schedule duration. Cleanliness and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) measures proved to be one of the most challenging aspects of the project, which we self-performed. With the project site being surrounded by active hospital spaces, negative air pressure had to be maintained at all times and stringent ICRA measures were applied to all scopes of work.
