Hensel Phelps was awarded the prestigious 2013 Ruby Level John L. Martin Partnered Project of the Year Award for its Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Renovation project in Salinas, California. Each year, the International Partnering Institute recognizes projects that best exemplify the principals of partnering and promote the organization’s mission – to create a culture of partnership. The awards also provide an opportunity for successful teams to celebrate their success, share lessons learned and best practices, and to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of teams who achieve extraordinary results.
The Salinas project included a full-scale structural seismic retrofit of the existing hospital while it remained fully operational. The work included major renovations and relocation of departments within the hospital, construction of new shear walls, and the demolition of existing facilities to allow for a future expansion.
