About the Project
The $340 million Mauka Concourse Extension project is a modernized terminal facility at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu, Hawaii. The 270,000 SF terminal extension provides additional TSA checkpoints, gates and flights for passengers.
The concourse accommodates six new gates, each with two passenger loading bridges, allowing for a flexible capacity of six widebody or 12-narrow body aircraft. Additionally, the project consists of passenger hold rooms, TSA security screening lanes, USDA inspection stations, jet bridges, and public amenities such as concessions, retail space, restrooms, and information kiosks. The project also includes 23 acres of taxiway asphalt paving and 9.5 acres of concrete paving.
Hensel Phelps self-performed over 300,000 craftwork hours on all site and structural concrete, precast double tee and architectural concrete erection, jet blast barrier and security fencing. Self-work building finishes included solid surface wall panels, millwork installation, column covers, 3-form trellises, toilet partitions and accessories, signage, and FF&E installation. Self-work demolition work included underground utility demolition, excavation, backfill and select building demolition.
The project will obtain LEED Gold certification. This project is the first major terminal expansion at the Honolulu Airport in over 28 years.
